‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Paul Wesley Set For Sci-Fier ‘Convergence’

The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley is jumping from the supernatural to the scientific with Convergence, a sci-fi action film that he’ll star in and produce.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Convergence is described as a college-age ensemble piece in the vein of Flatliners, The Matrix, and Fight Club based on real life “science fact”. It follows a group of underground biotech engineers, including an MIT student wunderkind, exploring a new technology far beyond their expectations and beyond the limits of human control.

The actor, director, and producer currently stars as Stefan Salvatore on The CW’s hit show The Vampire Diaries. The series is in its sixth season and will return from its midseason hiatus with a January episode that Wesley directed, his second after making his directorial debut on the show last season.

Q & Andy: Paul Wesley

New Jersey-native Paul Wesley is a rather busy man. The 32-year-old actor spends much of the year filming The Vampire Diaries in Georgia, a CW show on which he has played the brooding vampire heartthrob Stefan Salvatore since 2009. Over the last year he’s also filmed several indie movies, including Shawn Christensen’s Before I Disappear, which won the Audience Award at SXSW, and Amira & Sam, which is currently in competition at the Savannah Film Festival presented by SCAD.

ANDY WARHOL: What do you think about love?

PAUL WESLEY: Love is something that is very personal to each individual based on where they are in their lives. It fluctuates and changes over time. I think there is a massive differentiation between infatuation and love, but people tend to confuse the two.

WARHOL: When did you start making movies?

WESLEY: I started working in front of the camera for the first time when I was 15 years old. I joined a soap opera. We filmed in Brooklyn and I would skip class to shoot my scenes. It was terrifying and I entirely self-conscious in front of the camera.

Could The Vampire Diaries Go on Without Nina, Ian or Paul? Boss Julie Plec Weighs In

“Just the thought of it actually hurts me a little.”

This is what The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec has to say about the idea of a seventh season without any of her main cast members.

Us, too, Julie. Us too!

As E! News previously reported, only two of the show’s three leads—Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley—has signed on for a seventh season, which would kick off next fall, if the CW decides to pick up the series. Season six is currently airing—and kicking some serious creative ass—on Thursdays. (A new episode airs tonight.)

TVD’s ratings have been holding steady, averaging about 2 million viewers (last week’s episode was its largest audience since March), but the decision of a seventh season likely won’t be made until early 2015.

So what are the chances that season seven will happen? And would TVD’s producers and the CW really consider continuing the show without any of the main trio—Nina, Ian or Paul? If one of them decides not to continue?
I sat down with Julie to try to get some answers. See what the TVD mastermind has to say in the exclusive video right here….
